Sharptooth (First Film)

While Sharptooth is the name given to meat-eating dinosaurs, it also became the name of the main villain in The Land Before Time, the first film in the series.

In the first entry of LBT, a male Tyrannosaurus served as the main antagonist. He was unintentionally blinded by Littlefoot in his left eye by a thorn-covered vine, so he kept it closed; Cera later identifies him by this, serving to mark him as the Sharptooth to plant eating dinosaurs. He had an evil reputation and why was seen in how he persistently stalked Littlefoot and his friends throughout the film for seemingly no reason other than cruelty, though a Junior novelization of the original film cited vengeance for his damaged eye as his motivation. This Sharptooth is particularly notable for having been the one to have killed Littlefoot's Mother.

Sharptooth seemed to possess a near supernatural level of strength, athleticism and durability for a Tyrannosaurus, crawling through sharp thorns after Littlefoot and Cera with nary a scratch, withstanding multiple blows to the face from Littlefoot's mother, slamming his head through solid rock with no apparent ill effects, and surviving a 500 foot drop. He was also capable of massive leaps, even jumping straight up into the air onto a cliff in the film's climax. He also was seen being able to navigate through dark caves, and see well, despite being deprived of depth pereception since being blinded in the eye.

It was believed that Sharptooth had died in his fight with Littlefoot's mother, after being pushed into a deep chasm during the Great Earthshake. However, Cera later crossed paths with him at the bottom of said chasm, where he was found in a comatose state. Sharptooth finally met his end when Littlefoot and his friends managed to knock him off a cliff into a deep lake, drowning him by tipping a huge boulder onto his chest.

• Many fans of the new TV series believe that the current main villain, Red Claw, is the original sharptooth. The fact that both have blinded eyes and are especially feared gives good evidence to support these claims. However, Red Claw is grey in color and has a scar down the left side of his face, absent from the original Sharptooth who is more olive green and keeps his damaged eye closed.

• Sharptooth is believed to have been hostile to everyone he has ever met, friend and foe alike.

• It is rumored that this sharptooth may have also been the one that was defeated by the Lone Dinosaur, as it would explain his reputation for cruelty.

• Sharptooth was the first of his kind to be named in 'The Land Before Time' Media.

• Sharptooth is named after what he is which is confusing to make people wonder what his real name is.
• In the original movie, Sharptooth is animated by directing animator Dick Zondag along with animators Jean Morel and T. Daniel Hofstedt .
