Sandalodus is an extinct genus of cartilaginous fish from the Carboniferous period. It was named by Newberry and Worthenin 1866, and it is thought to have lived around 353 and 268 million years ago; long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth.
They are described as a nektonic carnivore, which meant scientists believe it fed on aquatic organisms similar to plankton. Fossils also show that Sandalodus may have been a marine animal while also calling shallower waters home (such as tidal pools).

A Sandalodus makes a cameo in one of the minigames of the game The Land Before Time Animated Moviebook.
