Sandalodus is an extinct genus of cartilaginous fish from the Carboniferous period.[1] It was named by Newberry and Worthenin 1866,[2] and it is thought to have lived around 353 and 268 million years ago; long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

They are described as a nektonic carnivore, which meant scientists believe it fed on aquatic organisms similar to plankton. Fossils also show that Sandalodus may have been a marine animal while also calling shallower waters home (such as tidal pools).[3]
