Kosh, voiced by Rob Paulsen, Jeff Bennett, and Pete Sepenuk, is a character in the Land Before Time films and television series. He is an Ankylosaurus, which is referred to as a "Clubtail" by the Land Before Time characters. Appearing frequently in the show, usually in minor roles, his name was revealed in the end credits of the TV episode "The Star Day Celebration", whereas he is only referred to as "Mr. Clubtail" in the films, and in the other episodes. But his full name is "Mr. Kosh Clubtail".
It is implied that Kosh was not part of the combined herds who migrated to the Great Valley during the events of the original The Land Before Time, as he did not appear until the third film, The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving, but has subsequently continued to make supporting appearances in the later films and TV series. In the flashback scene in the seventh film, The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, he was not shown hiking to the Great Valley with the other adult dinosaurs. It is possible that he either moved into the Great Valley sometime between the events of The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure and The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving, or that he was already living there when the combined herds arrived.
Kosh is generally amiable and relaxed, seen in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, when after catching a fallen treestar the children had hoped to catch, he says kindly, "Mornin' kids, nice day for a treestar!". He also seems to be willing to put himself at a moderate risk to protect others, as in The Land Before Time III he is the only adult to help in fighting the pack of Velociraptor who isn't a relative of the children (including Hyp, Nod and Mutt). However, he is also very gluttonous, and almost always seen eating. In "The Star Day Celebration", when the gang arrive at the sweet bubble (grape) patch to collect some for Ruby, Kosh, who is already dining on the fruit, initially refuses to share any with them. When Ducky states that they need them for Ruby's Star Day (birthday) celebration, he changes his mind, and even allows them to have some for themselves. This episode also shows a more surly side to his personality, as he speaks gruffly to the children, and laughs mockingly when Chomper tries to scare him into sharing the sweet bubbles. This side is also seen in The Land Before Time XII when he is seen losing his temper when Petrie's siblings fall out of the sky on to him, and Petrie himself appearing from some ferns he was about to eat. Kosh also seems to have a rivalry of sorts with Daddy Topps. In real life, Ankylosaurus and Triceratops may have competed for food and water at the Hell Creek formation.
He was voiced by Rob Paulsen in The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving, The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses, and The Land Before Time XII: The Great Day of the Flyers, Jeff Bennett in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island and The Amazing Threehorn Girl episode of the TV series, and Pete Sepenuk, who also voices Red Claw and Screech, in The Star Day Celebration episode of the TV series.
- Kosh speaks with a British accent in The Amazing Threehorn Girl, whereas in his other appearances, he usually speaks with an American accent.
